mother of a child with adhd
Thanks yes i know hes been very forgetfull too and yes hes going to counseling and its so hard i want t explore cuz ever since age 3 hes been diagnoise with adhd odd bipolar omg its crazy i =have tried time out nd no thAT DOESNT WORK
Again look around the ADHD site at some of the older posts/advice as there may be something you havent tried yet & too would be wise to get second opinions, if affordable, cause he might be misdiagnosed too.
I'm really not sure if the timeout works w/this type of behavior issue & he may need some type of age appropriate "chore" instead of trying to "Stand still" (which is impossible) for timeouts, just so he can release that energy in a productive way.
If I find something I'll copy & paste it back here on your original post.
Try to stay strong without having a much needed meltdown hon.
Found this on pg 12.
This article discusses genetic triggers of ADHD;
"It now seems that a genetic component is the cause of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or at least the following tidbit suggests so. Scientists from the Cardiff University in the United Kingdom assert that a genetic factor is responsible for ADHD. The findings can be beneficial in understanding of the genetic basis of this condition.
The study examined Copy Number Variants (CNVs) of DNA gathered from 410 ADHD patients. The results were then compared to 1156 controls, or individuals who were not diagnosed with ADHD. The study findings were also validated with another population of 825 individuals with ADHD and around 35,000 controls. Genetic evidence claims that individuals with ADHD have elevated rate of large CNVs.
If this piece of information is to be believed then, ADHD is not a social construct alone. Investigators suggest that introduction of genetic testing for ADHD patients can be vital. A better understanding of the genetic basis may help provide earlier diagnosis and more effective treatments...."

Welcome & my heart goes out to you friend, am sure your aware that you must keep him very scheduled & maybe he need his meds adjusted as one does build up immunity at any point in time. Have you tried therapy, if affordable, along w/meds so he gets a combination of assistance? I realize its not the schools responsibility to handle this situation & know your emotionally brokedown trying to police his every move while finance' isnt supporting you emotionally or your son (grounding him isnt always the answer) SOME discipline IS necessary but has to be age appropriate too as hes just a baby (7).
Has anyone else suggested anyother type of discipline tactic for adhd children?, if not talk w/school counselor maybe they can offer another outlet to utilize while you look through others post/advice on this site.
All my strengths hon.
April
